The Book
80 pages featuring over 100 black and white photos from the Hot Rod Hayride 2010. Available in 7″ square or 12″ square with a choice of covers. A preview of the first 15 pages of the book is available through Blurb. All profits (£2 per book) will be donated to Brad’s Cancer Foundation, all other charges go to Blurb for printing and shipping.

The Charity
Brad’s Cancer Foundation provide equipment specifically for the care of teenagers with cancer in the East Midlands. Supporting the development of a Teenage Cancer Unit, through the Teenage Cancer Trust and to provide help and support to teenagers with cancer and their families to relieve the stress and hardship during a difficult time

The Show

Detonators at Ruxley Manor

Popped along to Ruxley Manor on Saturday where the Detonators were supporting an event to raise money for the local RAF memorials project. A select turnout of cool cars were keeping the public entertained.

Passenger 57 – Roof Gallery

When I got my 57 Chevy I wanted this to be a fun car that I could get creative with, it was never going to be a 100 point resto. The next phase of creativity is complete today with the new headlining. I took down the fabric liner and covered the roof in damplifier to keep the noise down, then I painted the bit of roof on show black to tie in with the body and finally I have covered the roof in some of my favourite black and white photos. So next time your see the Chevy at a show check out the roof, you may find that you or your car are travelling with me all the time.

The keen eyed among you will notice a slight update to my website. I’ve created a new pinstripe logo so have changed the website to fit. If you come straight to the blog be sure to go back to the front door and check out the updated slide show. I have had a t-shirt printed with the new logo so I’ll be easier to spot at shows. I have also uploaded a desktop wallpaper to flickr, get the full size version here. Hope you like to new look.

People often ask me how to improve their photos, I’m a big fan of practice, practice, practice but you need to know the basics first. I went on a City and Guilds evening class to learn how to use a camera, great fun and if you get a good group it’s fun sharing your photos every week but it is a large commitment to time that not everyone can make.

Recently I discovered The Art Of Photography Podcast hosted by Ted Forbes and this would be the first port of call I would recommend to anyone wanting to improve their photography. Ted covers all the areas that I covered in the evening class I attended and then some. The great thing about Ted is there is no equipment snobbery, he’s quite happy to use a phone to take a photo if it’s the right tool for the job and has no prejudice about film or digital. As well as the technical aspects of photography Ted also takes inspiration from other photographers and reviews their work, discussing what makes a great photo.

If you’ve just picked up a camera for the first time or are a seasoned Pro wanting a refresher tune into Ted, you won’t regret it.

Some of my shots are destined for a future issue of NSRA Street Gasser magazine. But I have heaps. Once Nervous Nick has decided which shots to use I’ll stick the rest up but for now here’s a few to whet your appetite.
