Last night flicking through the TV I happened across Men In Black 2, to my delight I saw one of my favorite places to eat in the whole world was on the screen, the Empire Diner in New York. The Empire Diner is located in Chelsea on the corner of 23rd and 10th and is one of the last remaining “train car” steel diners left on Manhattan. Not only is it full of character but the food they dish up is absolutely top notch. I managed to get there four times during my trips to New York last year and wish I could have breakfast in there at last once at week but the commute from London is a bit much! Here are some shots I took while I was there:

I hope you have enjoyed seeing New York through my eyes. Living in London, UK I find New York to be the closest thing to home in the USA. The diversity and energy is infectious. I wanted the saturated colours to reflect the kaleidoscope of activity taking place in the street.

The photos in this book were taken during two trips to the USA during 2008. The first was made with a group of three friends to celebrate the fact that we have known each other for 25 years. This was a long weekend from the 10th to 14th April. A very busy but very enjoyable visit to the Big Apple.

Other photos were taken between 6th June and 21st June when I called into New York three times as part of a tour of the North West of America, including a trip over the Border to Canada. This was an awesome two week trip with my wife.

Of course this book would not exist without everyone who makes New York the awesome Mega City that it is. Those that keep the city going 24 hours a day. Those that bring their individuality to the streets. Those that carried on in the face of adversity.

This book is dedicated to the people of New York.

This is what Glen Malcolm had to say about the book:

“Nick Grants’ book “New York Minute”: Is a snapshot of the life, the lives and the loves of New York City.

For those of you who have actually been and spent time in the city, then this book is a stunning reminder of the sights, the sounds, the smells and fusion of the people that make up New York. It is a melting pot, consisting of so many different types of people; their moods, their hopes, their visions, their way of work and their way of play. Of the various cultures, the unique street art, the designs of the buildings across the ages, all of these attributes and facets have been brought to life into sharp technicolour focus. These will hit your senses and drag you back to the wonders of this most amazing of cities.

For those of you who have never been, then rarely has the city of New York been captured with this attention to detail and then brought to life by the medium of photography. Viewing these pictures will grab your imagination, it will make you want to reach out and to touch, to feel the vibration of New York City, to immerse yourself into the mindset and the pace of the city. You will want to step into the things that remain uniquely New York.”
